WOODLAND SPORTS SOCCER ACADEMY OVERVIEW
This year-round program, developed by Woodland Sports is designed for players aged 6-12 years old who have a higher level of ability, commitment and interest level in soccer. This program helps prepare players who aspire to play at a higher level.
Woodland Sports (see Training Staff in left column) is running this program independent of any soccer club and oversees the program.
This is a US Club Soccer based program. Participation in this program will not effect your participation in MSYSA programs like GVSA or MSPSP.
Studies have shown that the 6-12 ages are the most critical development years of a youth soccer player’s career. It is at these ages where the basic fundamental skills of soccer are mastered that allow players to compete and be successful as soccer players at the next level of play and where they develop a true love for the game.
1. Training Environment. The training environment simply cannot be replicated because of the highly competitive environment the players train in with professional trainers and coaches.
2. Frequency. The Academy player will train together 2 times per week during the months of January through October.
3. Proper Coaching. Players work under the guidance of coaches and trainers specifically hired for this program. Woodland Sports make it a priority that the players are given the right technical foundation that will allow them to compete at the next levels of play.
4. Attitude/Commitment. This program will bring together like-minded families who have a higher level of commitment and interest in soccer.
5. Passion. The goal of the program is to instill and foster a deep passion for the game. This passion is what will help drive and motivate the players to work on their technical skills on their own and to compete at the highest levels of play.

Concept – Here are the bullet points
- This first year the Program will begin on August 1 (fees will be prorated)
- This is a year round program designed to reduce much of the wasted effort that currently exists in youth soccer today. Studies have shown that at the younger ages of 6-12, players will benefit by increasing the hours of training and minimizing the hours of league games that focus on winning.
- This program is for those parents who are tired of the weekly trips for games that consume vast amounts of time, energy and money and yield little in the way of real progress.
- The training groups will train year round using the outdoor and indoor fields at Woodland Sports (subject to weather).
- The training will be held twice weekly year round with 2 months off (November 1 to the end of December). The training sessions are 60 minutes at U8, 90 minutes at U10 and U12.
- From April through October, Woodland Sports will host a friendly “Round Robin” at Woodland Sports every 4th weekend. The “Round Robin” will consist of 2 games on Saturday and 2 games on Sunday properly scheduled to maximize the amount of rest.
- The training sessions will resume the first week of January. The training groups will play at Woodland during the normal indoor sessions (instead of hosting “Round Robins”) and teams will get a 50% discount to play in the leagues.
- We will be accepting up to 26 players in each age group for this program and will be offering this at the following age groups:
- U8, U10, U12
- Woodland may also form age groups in single age groups if there is interest.
- The total cost for this program is $600 per year. There is a one time $100 registration fee that covers the cost of your training shirts, US Club registration and administrative costs. The $600 yearly fee is paid in 10 monthly installments of $60 per month (by credit card or check).
- Monthly fees will be prorated based on start date.
- The cost includes 6 training T-shirts which must be worn for training.
- There are no tryouts for this program and it can be joined at any time until the limit of 26 players is reached.
- The training is co-ed. The program is focused on skill development. Any "games" will be short-sided only which relies primarily on foot skills.
