Winter
One of the dilemmas facing any soccer club is what to do during the long, cold and dreary winter months here in Michigan. The Rovers believe in two basic ideas when it comes to winter activities.
WINTER TRAINING
The Rovers believe that while training is very important during the off-season; so is school, school activities, and school sports. To allow our players to experience life outside of soccer, the Rovers will typically offer one serious training session per week (2 hours) during the winter. Some locations may offer more or less training subject to their area.
WINTER PLAY
The second is more basic. Soccer should be fun. If it isn't fun, at some point players won't want to participate and may elect to abandon the game.
The Michigan Rovers believe that playing in small sided games (7 v 7 and 8 v 8) during the off-season allows each and every player to maximize both their enjoyment and their touches on the ball. It is our belief that this allows them to experience aspects of the game that will assist in the development of their individual skills and promote team play.
Teams that play 11 v 11 during the winter are typically trying to make the "TEAM" better not the individual player. Since the Rovers are focused on player development, we have chosen to go in a different direction.
The Rovers teams will organize those that wish to play in competitive leagues at facilities that offer small sided games that start in November and will continue through March.
COST:
A monthly fee of $50.00 will typically cover the weekly 2 hour training.
